Almost every global bank is currently experimenting with a form of technology known as ‘blockchain’. blockchain promises endless opportunities for cost-saving, as well as operational efficiencies.
However blockchain has the potential to disrupt the financial industry as we know it. The technology was initially developed in order to facilitate the generation of the cryptocurrency, Bitcoin and ultimately as a way to oppose the financial industry.

During this session we will explore both the opportunities that blockchain technology offers us, with some examples of initiatives ABN AMRO is currently working on; as well as discuss the potential threats it poses. Consider topics such as post-quantum cryptography, digital identity theft, ICO (initial coin offerings) scams, money laundering, etc. This session will not be focusing on banking, but rather on the broader application of blockchain.
